The tallest tower in the world

Burj khalifa is the tallest manmade structure in the world. The total cost of the project was about US $1.5 billion. The decision to build Burj Khalifa is reportedly based on the government’s decision to diversify from an oil based economy to one that is service and tourism based. Burj Khalifa was opened on 4th January 2010. The design of Burj Khalifa is derived from patterning systems embodied in Islamic architecture.

Burj Khalifa is expected to hold up to 35,000 people at any time. A total of 57 elevators and 8 escalators are installed. The building has 2,909 stairs from the ground floor to the 160th floor. The Burj Khalifa’s water system supplies an average of 946,000 of water per day through 100 km of pipes. Burj Khalifa is surrounded by a 27 acre park. It is the best place to visit in Dubai.

The tower occupies many star hotels, swimming pools and apartments. Many of the apartments are yet to be sold.  The tower is added attraction for those who visit Dubai.

The fabulous mall in Dubai

Dubai Mall the world's largest shopping centre equivalent to ten football fields, houses every imaginable luxury stores. It also features one of the many huge aquariums found everywhere in the city and a full-size skating rink. Dubai Mall is located next door to Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower. The spectacular dancing water shows is held in night at the foot of this sensational building.

Dubai Mall is impressive and seems like a tardis.  It is not complete, but they have done a very good job of opening a good varied selection of stores throughout, making it well worth a trip.  You can easily do a broad variety of shopping from food and groceries to clothes and accessories. There is a good selection of restaurants there too, including Ruby Tuesdays.  The indoor ice arena is open and is worth visiting.

The indoor aquarium has a viewing tunnel through the middle, a large fish tank measuring about 45 meters and home to some 33000 species.  You cannot help but feel concerned that there are far too many sharks and fish in such a small area.  If you just want to see the aquarium you pay 25aed per adult or 50aed if you want to visit the Discovery Centre upstairs as well. However the first impressions of the Discovery Centre are pretty good. Some nice fish in relatively large aquariums with good educational guides around you. The Discovery Centre houses otters, penguins and seals.

There is also a cinema and two game/fun zone areas for families and children.

Pay a visit to the malls when you are in Dubai.
