Giant Buddha in Hong Kong



 Amid the fantastic mountain surroundings of Lantau Island is seated the world's tallest sculpture Buddha. Giant Buddha, Hong Kong also known as Tian Tan Buddha or Giant Buddha and it are located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island in Hong Kong. A confirmation of the harmonious correlation between man and nature, people and religion, the statuette of Big Buddha is located near Po Lin Monastery.


Big Buddha in Hong Kong is placed above the lotus atop of Ngong Ping plateau. The weight is about 250 tones of Tian Tan Buddha is 34 meters high. It takes more than ten years to complete the statue, and it has opened for public viewing in 1993 accompanied by deeply religious formal procedure. The devotees and pilgrims have to climb 268 stairs to arrive at the platform where the Big Buddha of Hong Kong is seated. The statue is enclosed by eight smaller bronze statues.

It takes nearly three years to complete this construction of Giant Buddha in Hong Kong. The construction commence on this enormous construction ended on the birthday of Sakyamuni, December 29th, 1993. It has formed with 202 disconnect pieces of bronze and steel framework to provide strength to the statue from inside. The place where Buddha statue can be reached by bus or taxi or Mui Wo. There is also thrilling travel through the Cable car. The monastery remains open on every weekday. Entry to the monastery is free.
