Chidambaram Nataraja Shrine

Chidambaram is also identified as Thillai because the shrine exists in the forest region of Thillai. This is the foremost and ancient temple situated in Tamil Nadu of India. It is the topmost holy place for the Saivals’ where Lord Nataraja is placed inside here. 


Chidambaram temple is entirely dedicated to God Nataraja that almost devoted to the sculpture of Bharathanatyam. It is the special temple for Lord Shiva that Shiva is places as an idol not in the form of Lingam. The temple tower has been spread over the region of forty acres on either side and has speared Sabhas or courts are five in number.  

The temple tower exists in the East direction enclosed with the height of forty meters from the ground. The special theme of this temple tower is carved hundred and eight dance stills of Bharathanatyam. On the other hand, the West direction temple tower also has carved with similar carvings. The altitude of North direction towers took the name of highest tower of this temple that exists for about forty two meters.  

Kanakasabha, inside the Chidambaram shrine, comprises the Natarajar idol where the roof is encompassed with the gold plates. The sculpture is carved in the way that includes the sensation of continuous movements in it. Since then only Hindus are allowed to enter inside the shrine and get the dharshan of Lord Natarajar. 

Another shrine placed proximity to the main shrine is dedicated for the Lord Vishnu, also referred as Lord Govindha, also enclosed with the idol of Adisesha, the lying bed of Lord Vishnu. Beyond this there are two temples that dedicated to Lord Subramaniya Swamy and next to God Pillaiyar. The immense size Nadhi is placed and seems to devotedly opposite to his Lord Shiva.
