Munnar is a hill station in Kerala. The Munnar town is in Kannan devan hills in idukki district. The nearest railway stations are at Ernakulum and Alva. Cochin International Airport is the near by airport from this place. Tourists come to visit the vast tea plantations of the area. The “Kannan Devan” brand of Tea from the Tata is cultivated and processed here.
Malayalam and Tamil are the main languages spoken here. You can manage with English or Hindi. Anamudi the highest peak of south India is close to this place. You can visit Munnar except in the month of June and July. In winter it is advisable to use woolen clothes and caps to close the ear.
On the way to Munnar, Adimali is the first place to visit and it is famous for whole sale market of spices and cardamom. Next is the Valara Water falls. This place is famous for the cloudy water falls. The water gets sprinkled from the falls on the tourist who watch from the road side. Next is the cheeyappara waterfall. It is nick named seven step falls because of the cascade of water coming in seven steps.
Munnar tea hills are famous for the beautiful tea gardens covered with thin layer of clouds every time. Mattupatti Dam is crowded by tourist who loves boating. There is a facility of paddle and row boating for tourists specially honeymooners.
Blossom International Park attracts more visitors for its variety of flowers and amusement beauties. It may take one hour to walk through the park.
In Tata Tea Museum there is a demonstration of tea processing and tea tasting. Tata Tea Products is famous all over the world. CSI church is an ancient stone church built in 1910 and it is mostly crowded by tourist. Devikulam is a picnic spot and lake town. Rajamalai is a National Park situated 13 km from Munnar. Marayoor is surrounded by sandalwood forest, ancient caves and water falls.
Tourist can plan for a week stay to visit Munnar and the places around.
