Forts in Goa


Forts form an important part of the historical monuments of Goa in India. The forts of Goa are visited by a large number of local and foreign tourists throughout the year. Each fort has its own historical background. People who explore and learn history are more attracted to these places. 

First is the Aguada fort of Goa. It was built in the year 1612. The fort was built to protect the state from any kind of enemy attack from outside.



The next is the Chapora fort of Goa. It was constructed in the year 1617. It is located 22 km from Panaji the capital city of Goa. The fort was built as a watch post of the border. All that remains at present is the ruins of the fort. There are two tunnels in this fort which attract the tourists.

The next is the Reis magos fort of Goa. This fort mainly focuses on the entry point. It is located at the mouth of river Mondovi. This fort is constructed by the Portuguese in the year 1551.



The next is the Terekhol fort is majestically constructed by Maharaja of sawanwadi. This fort was constructed on the Tekekhol river banks. Reconstruction was held on 1764 by Portuguese. Now you can enter into this place as heritage hotel.
