Splendid Thotti Palam


              
     Mathur Hanging Trough is the longest and tallest aqueduct in South Asia. It is located in the district of Kanyakumari. It is constructed across the river named Parazhiyar. And this bridge is near the hamelt Mathur, so that it is named as Mathur Thotti Palam that famous all over the world. It is one of the well known and excellent tourist spot in Kanyakumari district.

         Mathur thotti palam is a solid structure supported by means of twenty eight massive pillars and the utmost height of the pillars attainment 115 feet. The trench structure is seven feet in height, a width of 7.5 feet. The trench is partially enclosed on pinnacle with concrete slabs, which permits people to walk on the bridge and also observe the water going all the way through the trough.

     
          This bridge has unveiled by Tamil Nadu former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj. The main intention of this admirable bridge is to hold water for irrigation commencing an elevated level of one hill to another hill. This irrigation water nourishes the taluks of Vilavancode and Kalkulam.
